Wonderful insights to the throbbing commercial centres of Mumbai and Ahmedabad. Mumbai dazzles and not only because of the sunshine glinting off the sea. It is the dream that glows in the eyes of the many who find their way here. Explore the colonial Gateway of India, frenetic bazaars in and around Crawford Market, the wealth of the museums……but Ahmedabad await, an old city rich in tradition and culture, with museums, stepwells, the Gandhi Ashram and many more sights.
Rajasthan brings a change of pace. Tranquil settings appreciate God’s endless bounty and exquisitely detailed, elaborate temples pay tribute to it – the Dilwara Jain temples near Mount Abu and the ancient Sun Temple at Modera in Gujarat visited en route. The sleepy little town of Pushkar has the only temple dedicated to Brahma, the creator in the Hindu trinity. It comes alive for the annual Pushkar fair, when it is buried under the sea of humanity that descends upon it for a ritual bath in the lake and to participate in the cattle fair. While at Ajmer is the dargah of the renowned Sufi saint Moinudin Chisti, who is said to have blessed Mughal emperor Akbar with an heir, where believers still ask for boons.
