DRIVING TO LADAKH it is good to keep in mind that you are on the highest motorable road in the world. One that affords some breath-taking views f the ‘roof of the world’. Taking you through north-eastern Himachal Pradesh and Lahual valley is the Rotang Pass. As you get higher, the gentle greens of the verdant valley slowly give way to the harsh dry deserts of higher altitude and stark, startling beauty f the painted mountains. The inaccessibility of the higher reaches of this region is what makes it so attractive. Accommodation is comfortable but basic – we use tents in Jispa and Sarchu. There are few who venture here and though the number is increasing, the unparalleled beauty of these mountains remains unspoiled and the lifestyle of the people still untouched by the modern age.
DAY 01: ARRIVAL DELHI
Reception and welcome at Delhi airport followed by transfer to your hotel.
DAY 02: DELHI
After a morning at leisure, a tour introduces you to the city of New Delhi. Sundown takes you to a Hindu temple to be part of the evening prayer.
DAY 03: DELHI
Visit the busy lanes of the old Mughal capital of Shahjahanabad.
DAY 04: DELHI / CHANDIGARH BY TRAIN, CHANDIGARH / NALAGARH BY SURFACE
The morning train takes you to Chandigarh from where your chauffeur will drive you to Nalagarh and the Heritage Palace you are booked at.
DAY 05: NALAGARH / MANALI BY SURFACE
Stop and visit the Naggar fort en route to Manali.
DAY 06: MANALI
Spend the day in appreciation if the natural beauty and sights around Manali.
DAY 07: MANALI / JISPA BY SURFAE
Cross the Rohtang pass to drive on to Jispa.
DAY 08: JISPA / SARCHU BY SURFACE
The Bara Lacha pass takes you across to the Zanskar and Spiti valleys and on to Sarchu.
DAY 09: SARCHU / LEH BY SURFACE
From Rupshu, the highest inhabited region in the world, cross the Taglang la pass to Leh.
DAY 10: LEH
Full day to explore Leh city and the surrounding monasteries of Hemis, Thikse and Shey.
DAY 11: LEH
Full day to explore Leh city and the surrounding monasteries of Hemis, Thikse and Shey.
DAY 12: LEH / DELHI BY FLIGHT
Fly back to Delhi and catch up with last minute souvenir shopping.
DAY 13: DEPARTURE DELHI
Transfer to the airport in time for your flight out.
