As much as she is known for her culture and civilisation, India is also famous for the range of her habitats that continue to provide sanctuary to a wide variety of wildlife – plants, birds and animals. The vast man-made wetlands that are a major feature of the Keoladeo Gana national Park attract as many as 387 species of birds every year, many of them migrants from as far away as Siberia and Mongolia. The annual transformation of the park to a cacophonic nursery is an event eagerly awaited by birdwatchers across the globe.
In the shadow of the brooding silhouette of the Ranthambore Fort, lies tiger country and the powerful king of the jungle seems to know this. You may also spot other carnivores such as the caracal, panther and leopard.
Combining these with the pinnacles of the ‘Golden Triangle’ – Delhi, Agra, Jaipur – this itinerary strikes the perfect balance between the man-made and the natural.
DAY 01: ARRIVAL
Reception and welcome at Delhi airport followed by transfer to your hotel.
DAY 02: DELHI
Morning explore the Moghul capital of Shahjahanabad, better known today as Old Delhi. Opposite the Red Fort stretch the busting streets of Chandni Chowk which are visited on rickshaws. In the afternoon, a tour introduces you to the city of New Delhi. Drive through the colonial heritage of Lutyen’s Delhi and on to a closer look at the Qutab Minar and Humayun’s Tomb. Drive past Parliament buildings and India Gate.
DAY 03: DELHI / AGRA BY SURFACE
Drive to Agra. Visit the Taj Mahal and other monuments in the city. Return to the Taj at sunset to see it fired by a different palette.
DAY 04: AGRA / BHARATPUR BY SURFACE
Leave early to stop at the deserted city of Fatehpur Sikri en route to Bharatpur.
DAY 05: BHARATPUR / RANTHAMBORE BY SURFACE
Morning round of birdwatching. Drive onto Ranthambore for 2 nights.
DAY 06: RANTHAMBORE
A day dedicated to the wilderness.
DAY 07: RANTHAMBORE / JAIPUR BY SURFACE
Enjoy a game drive early in the morning. Drive to Jaipur after breakfast.
DAY 08: JAIPUR
Go majestically up to the ramparts of Amber Fort on elephant back in the morning. Jaipur can be toured in the afternoon.
DAY 09: JAIPUR / DELHI BY SURFACE – DEPARTURE
Drive back to your hotel in Delhi. The day is at leisure for last minute shopping. Transfer to the airport in time for your flight out.
