KERALA, A VIBRANT and beautiful land with mile upon mile of silver beaches, stretched taut and inviting over a lace edged coast; silent, sleepy backwaters fringed with trailing fingers of green; verdant hillsides with their bounty of spices; gracious homes gleaming with the warmth of polished wood.
The heart of the land is composed of intensely green paddy fields and a unique network of rivers and lagoons. Upland Kerala, relatively little visited, comprises hills thickly wooded with teak and rubber. It is here that Kerala’s most precious spices are grown in carefully nurtured plantations – cardamom, pepper and nutmeg.
Sun-kissed beaches; exotic hill stations, suspended in time amidst sprawling tea plantations; picture-book towns with winding lanes and an intriguing mix of culture; wildlife reserves; trekking and cruising facilities; all combine to make this a most enjoyable itinerary.
DAY 01: ARRIVAL THIRUVANATHAPURAM
Reception and welcome at Thiruvanathapuram airport followed by transfer to your hotel.
DAY 02: VARKALA
Lie back, bask on the beach and see the sun kiss your skin to bronze in minutes.
DAY 03: VARKALA / KUMARAKOM BY SURFACE
Drive to Alleppey after breakfast to take a scenic boat cruise down the tranquil backwaters to the Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary on the banks of the Lake Vembanad.
DAY 04: KUMARAKOM / PERIYAR BY SURFACE
En route to Periyar stop at a rubber planation to see how rubber is tapped and processed.
DAY 05: PERIYAR
Watch from a boat as herds of elephants, and other wildlife, enjoy the cool waters of the lake.
DAY 06: PERIYAR / MUNNAR BY SURFACE
After breakfast, drive to Munnar, the summer resort of the British in South India, visiting the Cardamom Research Centre on the way.
DAY 07: MUNNAR / KOCHI BY SURFACE
On the west coast of India, Kochi, previously known as Cochin, is also referred to as the Gateway of South India. Visit the ancient palace, old Portuguese churches as well as Jewish synagogue, all indicators of the diverse cultural heritage of the city.
DAY 08: DEPARTURE KOCHI
Transfer to the airport in time for your flight out.
OPTIONAL EXTENSION:
If you have the time, an optional extension for 03 days to include the Marari Beach Resort, can be arranged from Kochi.
